Added to Tuesday’s primary ballot is a proposed change to the way property taxes are assessed.

Some out-of-area commercial fishermen were checked for compliance with fishing regulations while netting for mullet in Bimini Bay (also known as Fiske Bayou) on Anna Maria Island.
Residents alerted the Holmes Beach Police Department to what appeared to be a large netting operation in nearby fishing and protected sea grass beds.

Yesterday’s cold front brought overnight wind from the SW and a wind swell of up to 6 feet on the Gulf of Mexico.
Area surfers soon converged on their favorites spots, one of them being Anna Maria Island’s White Ave location.
There were 40 - 60 surfers at the beach break all day.

Anna Maria Island’s Island Players presents their production of “over My Dead Body” beginning Jan 17 at the theater 10009 Gulf Drive and Pine Avenue corner, Anna Maria. The production is scheduled through Feb 3 on Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm.

On Jan 15 the US Coast Guard begins its new winter schedule for the timed raising of the 2 bridges that connect Anna Maria Island to the mainland.
The summer schedule allowed for on-demand raising at 20 minute intervals: on the hour, 20 past, and 20 ’til, if required by a boat during daylight hours.
