There is plenty for ducks to eat around Anna Maria Island. There is no need for people to feed them, and to do so just to keep them around for entertainment is not in the best interest of the ducks or the island.

The shells that usually wash ashore on the beaches of Anna Maria Island include spiny jewelboxes, which are white with spikes protruding. They look like bivalves, but are, in fact gastropods. Another fairly common gastropod shell is the lettered olive,

We still are enjoying our daily walks over to the beach. Most of us who live on Anna Maria Island are able to walk to the beach. The island is so narrow at the south end that the beach is never more than three or four blocks away.
