Marion L. MacVicar
Marion L. MacVicar, of Kalamazoo, Mich., and formerly Holmes Beach, died Dec 30. Mrs. MacVicar was born in Altmont, Mich., and spent most of her adult life in Flint, Mich. She retired to Florida in 1980, then moved back to Kalamazoo in 2006. Locally, she was a member of Roser Memorial Community Church and the Key Royale Club. A local memorial service will be announced. A celebration of her life was held on Jan. 4 in Kalamazoo and online guestbook comments are welcome at lifestorynet.com. She is survived by sons James and wife Nancy of Holmes Beach, and Dean and wife Linda of Kalamazoo; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
William G. ‘Bill’ Olsen
William G. “Bill” Olsen, 93, of Bradenton, died Jan 5. Formerly of New Jersey, Mr. Olsen moved to Florida in 1979, and to Bradenton in 2002. He worked in New Jersey for 50 years before his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Roser Memorial Community Church for 25 years and was active in the Men’s Club, served as an usher and Deacon, and was responsible for many church dinners, with the pancake breakfasts being his favorite. A memorial service will be held at 10 am Friday, Jan 11, at the church, 512 Pine Ave., Anna Maria. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, P.O. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Edwina; son Bill and wife Barbara of Texas; daughter Kris and husband Rick of New Jersey; and grandchildren Blake of Texas, Hillary and husband Adam of Colorado, and David and Jessie of New Jersey.
Ruth A. Rousseau
Ruth A. Rousseau, 78, of Bradenton and formerly of Brattleboro, Vt., died Jan 2. Mrs. Rousseau moved to Manatee County in 1994. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. She worked in customer service with Cheshire County Savings Bank, and volunteered in libraries of several elementary schools. She was a member of the American Red Cross and the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Services will be held at a later date. Brown and Sons Funeral Home, 43rd Street Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. She is survived by husband Richard; son Peter of Hanoi, North Vietnam; daughter Ann Morris Of Sewanee, Tenn.; and six grandchildren.
Harold Winer
Harold Winer, 94, of Longboat Key, died Jan 3. Mr. Winer moved to the area in 1972. He was a self-taught artist, and was featured at the former Salon Gallery on Longboat Key. He was known for sending handmade Christmas and Jewish New Year cards to friends and admirers, of which many resided on Anna Maria Island. He worked with teens at the Manatee Regional Juvenile Detention Center, helping youth learn of art as a tool to change their lives, as well as with Manatee Glens Adolescent Recovery Center. He was named artist of the year in 1993 by the Sarasota Visual Art Center. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.
